L3 Embedded Technology Quality Assurance

TLM Level 3 Certificate in Embedded Technology Quality Assurance

The TLM Level 3 Certificate in Embedded Technology Quality Assurance and Testing develops learners’ ability to apply structured testing, quality assurance, and investigative practices in embedded and connected technology environments. Building on prior study of embedded systems, the qualification introduces advanced approaches to software testing, incident investigation, reporting culture, and review group management, alongside an understanding of how QA processes integrate with development and operations.

Qualification

On successful completion of the course you will be receive a Nationally recognised Level 2 Certificate in Human Factors in Emerging Technologies.

Course Content (inclusive but not limited to:)

Learners develop a strong grounding in quality assurance for embedded and connected technologies. The qualification focuses on how QA supports reliability, safety and user confidence, and how it integrates with development, testing and operations in modern engineering environments.

Key content includes:

  • Principles of QA in embedded technologies

    • Understanding what quality assurance means in embedded development

    • How QA fits into the software development lifecycle and product pipeline

    • Differentiating QA from software testing and recognising the goals of QA

    • Exploring how poor QA leads to failures, cost and reputational damage

  • Applying QA processes to embedded projects

    • Checking that code meets requirements and is traceable to specifications

    • Using defect tracking tools and peer reviews to spot and manage issues

    • Using documentation and evidence to support QA activities at each stage

    • Understanding how QA underpins certification, compliance and audit needs

  • Maintaining quality across teams and releases

    • How QA teams work with development, operations and test teams

    • The role of regression testing in long term product quality

    • Using QA tools to track issues and trends over time

    • Building consistent QA processes that improve trust in embedded products

  • Optional technical and contextual units

    • RDK-B fundamentals, Linux, triage and DevOps in embedded environments

    • Software testing techniques and automation for embedded systems

    • Incident investigation, review groups and reporting culture for continuous improvement

    • IoT, smart city, industrial IoT, AI for IoT and AR for IoT from a quality, safety and reliability perspective

This qualification supports progression into QA, testing, DevOps, support and reliability roles in embedded and IoT-focused organisations, as well as further study in engineering, computing or digital technology fields.
