TLM Level 3 Certificate in Embedded Technology Quality Assurance

The TLM Level 3 Certificate in Embedded Technology Quality Assurance and Testing develops learners’ ability to apply structured testing, quality assurance, and investigative practices in embedded and connected technology environments. Building on prior study of embedded systems, the qualification introduces advanced approaches to software testing, incident investigation, reporting culture, and review group management, alongside an understanding of how QA processes integrate with development and operations.

Qualification

On successful completion of the course you will be receive a Nationally recognised Level 2 Certificate in Human Factors in Emerging Technologies.

Course Content (inclusive but not limited to:)

Learners develop applied engineering knowledge in embedded systems, focusing on system reliability, DevOps, triage, testing, operational workflows and emerging IoT/AI technologies. The qualification combines technical understanding with collaboration, problem-solving and evaluative skills expected at Level 3, supporting progression into higher-level engineering or digital roles.

Key content includes:

  • System reliability, collaboration & operational workflows

    • Understanding reliability in embedded and connected systems

    • Using shared tooling and documentation across development teams

    • Applying escalation strategies, structured reviews and post-incident learning

  • Triaging, testing & DevOps for embedded systems

    • Investigating issues using logs, system commands and diagnostic data

    • Designing and running software tests across embedded environments

    • Applying DevOps principles for build, deployment, CI/CD and release management

  • Incident investigation, review groups & reporting culture

    • Analysing technical, human and systemic contributors to faults

    • Running review processes that support learning and improvement

    • Building strong reporting culture and transparency in technology teams

  • IoT, smart city & industrial systems (optional units)

    • Exploring IoT architectures, data, cloud and connected devices

    • Understanding smart city infrastructure, security and sustainability

    • Studying industrial IoT (IIoT), SCADA, uptime and predictive maintenance

  • AI, AIoT & augmented reality in embedded environments (optional units)

    • Applying AI to enhance connected devices and real-time systems

    • Considering ethics, user impact and responsible data-driven innovation

    • Exploring AR interfaces for maintenance, training and troubleshooting

This qualification supports advanced progression in the digital/technology sector, including embedded technology, IoT, software testing, DevOps, systems operations and engineering pathways. It also develops transferable skills in collaboration, problem-solving, investigation and safety-critical thinking that are increasingly valued in modern technology environments.
