This Level 2 Certificate in Embedded Systems Operations is designed for learners aiming to work in technical support, device maintenance, or operational roles within digital and embedded technology environments. It introduces the core skills needed to monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot connected devices such as routers, smart home hubs, and IoT platforms. Learners will gain confidence working with embedded Linux systems, network tools, and error management processes while developing an understanding of ethical and human-centred approaches to technology

On successful completion of the course you will be receive a Nationally recognised Level 2 Certificate in Embedded Systems Operations.

Course Content (inclusive but not limited to:)

Learners explore how embedded systems are operated, monitored and maintained in real-world environments. The course focuses on system operations, device management, troubleshooting and configuration, supported by optional units in networking, Linux, RDK technologies and ethical considerations around modern digital systems.

Key content includes:

  • Embedded systems operations & device management

    • Monitoring system performance using logs and diagnostic tools

    • Troubleshooting system faults and service issues

    • Managing updates, configurations and cloud/OTA processes

    • Understanding operational risks, security considerations and version control

  • Linux & RDK for embedded systems (optional units)

    • Navigating Linux using command-line tools

    • Editing and managing configuration files and system services

    • Understanding open-source ecosystems and RDK technologies for devices

  • Foundations of networking

    • Core networking concepts, protocols, sockets and device communication

    • Analysing packet traffic and identifying network-level issues

    • Understanding Wi-Fi, firewalls, NAT and encrypted connections

  • AI, ethics & human factors in smart technology

    • Privacy, data use, automation and behavioural impacts

    • Fairness, transparency and safety in AI-powered systems

    • Ethical and societal considerations in emerging digital platforms

  • Just culture & error management in tech environments

    • Human error, accountability and system learning

    • Error reporting, review processes and continuous improvement

This qualification prepares learners for operational roles involving embedded devices, IoT systems, digital infrastructure and modern technical environments. It also supports career progression in computing, networking, smart technology and associated industries.
